Expedition mega yacht "Octopus"
Stunning in its size, Octopus is the 21st largest yacht in the world. The perfect vessel for traveling to any corner of the earth. Whether it’s remote areas, the poles or the tropics, you can be sure of the reliability of the yacht. There are plenty of activities on the ship for a long-term stay at sea. The estimated cost of Octopus is 2.2 million euros per week, the owner is currently unknown.
History:
The yacht was originally built for Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft. Octopus is an exclusive vessel that Paul has repeatedly leased out for scientific research, marine expeditions and rescue operations.
So, in 2012, he provided a ship to the Royal Navy for a rescue operation aimed at finding the ship’s bell from the sunken battlecruiser of the Second World War, which died at a depth of 9,000 feet (2,700 m) in Danish, in order to perpetuate this moment in the history of his country. And in 2016, the same bell was exhibited at the National Museum of the Royal Navy.
The yacht has survived many similar expeditions, including in the team with Allen, thanks to its successful and sturdy construction, as well as the professionals on board.
Construction and design:
The mega yacht was built by the German shipyard Lurssen in 2003. Renowned designers Espen Oeino and Jonathan Quinn Barnett worked on the luxurious look of the ship.
The eight decks of the ship comfortably accommodate up to 26 guests in 13 cabins and 57 crew members. In addition to the master suite, which has two bathrooms and a separate dining deck, the yacht includes 12 double cabins. An elegant hot tub and Jacuzzi are located on the private terrace. Here you can also enjoy signature cocktails in the cozy bar or have an unforgettable banquet for 6 people.
Entertainments:
Due to its impressive size, Octopus has allowed to accommodate a wide range of entertainment and an on-board elevator system between decks. Large swimming pool, beach club, and outdoor Jacuzzi. A special cinema or a large separate dance floor is for evening relaxation. Table tennis, gym, basketball court, sauna, library – for daytime use. A special highlight of the vessel is the transparent hall to observe the underwater world.
The yacht has two helipads and a lot of water hobbies, scuba diving equipment, jet skis and even two full-fledged submarines.

Equipped with Mercedes diesel engines, the Octopus has a maximum speed of 19 knots, while its low cruising speed of 12 knots allows it to have a power reserve of 12,500 nautical miles. The mega yacht is also equipped with the latest anchor and steering technologies, which increase the maneuverability of the vessel.
Prices and rentals:
Paul Allen, the first owner, died in 2018. From December 2018 to July 2019, the yacht underwent repairs at Blohm + Voss. In September 2019, it was put up for sale at a price of 295 million euros. However, later the cost of the yacht was reduced to 235 million, and in 2021 it was purchased by an anonymous buyer.
Exclusive charter experience:
Starting in 2022, OCTOPUS is available for charter for the first time since its launch. The weekly charter of this yacht is estimated at about 2.2 million euros for 2024.
