Go to question pageDespite its futuristic appearance, Dubai cherishes its history. The Dubai Museum, located in the ancient fort of Al Fahidi, offers a journey through time. Descending into the cool underground halls, you immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the old city with its markets, houses and crafts. I was particularly impressed by the interactive expositions where you can learn about pearl mining, once the main fishery of the region. For art lovers, the Alsercal Avenue area has become a real discovery. Modern art galleries, cafes and studios are hidden among the converted warehouses. Here I met artists from all over the world, discussing art over a cup of strong Arabic coffee.

Go to question pageIn Dubai, sports are not just a way to stay fit, but also a part of the culture. Football is adored here, and you'll often see groups of young people playing on makeshift fields or watching matches in cafes. However, camel racing is considered the most traditional sport. I visited one such race at the Al Marmoom racecourse, and it was a thrilling spectacle: camels, steered by robot jockeys, racing across the sandy track to the cheers of the audience. Falconry is another ancient pastime still practiced today. I visited the Dubai Falconry Academy, where I learned about the intricacies of training these majestic birds and even got to hold a falcon on my arm. In addition, water sports such as windsurfing, kitesurfing, and diving are very popular thanks to the abundance of beaches and warm water.

I attended Art Dubai, an international art fair that brings together artists and collectors from around the world. Traditional art is also valued. Museums and cultural centers offer workshops in Arabic calligraphy, ceramics, and textile art. I tried my hand at creating henna patterns and was impressed by the complexity and beauty of this craft.Music and theater are represented at the Dubai Opera, where I enjoyed performances by world-renowned ballet and opera stars in a modern building with unique architecture.
