Boat Trip: Going to Isla del Coco

Santa Cruz, located in Costa Rica, is one of the most beautiful places that travelers have ever visited. However, one of the most exciting places you can visit is Isla del Coco, also known as Coconut Island. It is a remote island in the Pacific Ocean, which is famous for its amazing nature and underwater world. In this blog we will talk about our exciting trip to this island, about meetings with dolphins, scuba diving and even about how we caught the fish of our dreams!

First morning at Isla del Coco

I have just woken up after a night watch and am looking eagerly at the navigation map, realizing that we are very close to Isla del Coco. I have joy in my heart, and I can’t contain my excitement. For the last twenty minutes, I’ve just been lying in bed, full of anticipation for what lies ahead. When we finally approached the island, I was amazed by its beauty. The water was such a bright blue color that it seemed as if it had been painted. Dolphins appeared all around us every now and then, and this sight was simply amazing. We even noticed several waterfalls falling directly into the ocean.

Adventures with rangers

Our team faced some difficulties when we arrived on the island. To stay here, we had to get permission from the rangers. They were very strict in their rules, but fortunately we had a plan. We decided to treat the rangers with banana bread, which we had prepared in advance. I hope this will help us establish contact with them! When the Rangers approached us, they explained that we could swim around the boat, but we would need to leave the island in eight hours. It was a bit disappointing, but we were glad that we could enjoy this wonderful place, even if only for a short time.

Scuba diving and shark encounter

During our time at Isla del Coco, we noticed white sharks swimming around us. It was both exciting and a little scary at the same time. One of the rangers warned us that there are tiger sharks on the island, and it’s best if one of us watches the other as we work on our boat. I was anxiously expecting that we would be able to do some underwater dives, but first we had to take care of some problems with our equipment. Fortunately, we got over it quickly, and soon we were ready for an adventure underwater.

The search for the fish of your dreams

Soon after we finished diving, our efforts were crowned with success. We caught the fish we’ve been dreaming about all our lives. It was a striped marlin, and we were thrilled! This moment was simply unforgettable, and we were happy to release the fish back into the ocean so that it could continue to swim in its natural habitat. We watched her disappear into the depths and felt that it was a really special moment. We were all full of happiness and pride that we were able to catch such an amazing fish.

Return to Costa Rica

After our stay at Isla del Coco, we headed back to Costa Rica. The journey was not as easy as we expected. We faced a lack of wind, but it gave us the opportunity to enjoy the tranquility of the ocean and watch the dolphins around our boat. As we approached the shore, I felt a mixture of joy and sadness. I was glad to be back on land, but also sad to leave such a magical island as Isla del Coco. I knew that this journey would remain in my memory forever.

Our adventure on Isla del Coco was full of amazing moments and memories. We saw dolphins, met with rangers, fished our dreams and enjoyed the beauty of nature.
