From here it is convenient to start to the famous Isla Mujeres (island of Women), to the coral reefs and just along the coast, viewing the hotel area from an unexpected angle. This is the choice for those who want to combine yachting with comfortable hotel vacations and hangouts.

La Paz on the coast of Cortez is a completely different story. People come here for diving with sea lions, for whales and for the feeling of a real adventure. There’s less glamour here, but more wildlife.

We will now focus on Cancun and the Riviera Maya, because 90% of those who want to try yachting in Mexico for the first time come here.

What floats: from humble boats to party yachts

The fleet here is diverse, and you can find an option for any request.

Motor yachts. The most popular choice for companies from 6 to 15 people. These are usually 40-50 ft (12-15 m) long vessels with a spacious stern, sunbathing areas in the bow and, importantly, cabins and a toilet. Some even have air conditioning in the cabin — a salvation on a hot day.

One of the popular models is the 46—foot Sea Ray. These yachts have everything: ice, a refrigerator, Bluetooth speakers to play your music, and a team of two or three people who will take care of you.

Catamarans. The choice is for those who value space and are afraid of pitching. The catamaran does not tilt, you can comfortably walk in a large company on it, and there is usually more room for sunbathing. Ideal for families with children.

Sailboats. For romantics and those who want to feel the real sea romance. But keep in mind: in Cancun, the wind is not always predictable, so if you only have half a day, it’s better to choose a motor yacht to ensure that everything is planned.

How much does it cost to rent a yacht in Mexico: real figures

Prices in Mexico are a topic that requires explanation. Because what you see in the base cost and what you pay in the end may be slightly different.

Hour-long walks. You can rent a yacht for 2, 4 or 6 hours. This is the most popular format that gives maximum impressions.

• 2 hours — a clean cruise around Cancun Bay. You will see the hotel area from the water, but you will not reach Isla Mujeres. Prices start from $560 per yacht (not per person!).
• 4 hours is optimal. You will have time to reach Isla Mujeres, snorkel at the reefs and anchor off Playa Norte. The cost ranges from 1200-1500 dollars for a group of up to 10-15 people.
• 6 o’clock — you can explore everything slowly, have lunch on the yacht and even go to the island to take a walk.

What is included in the price. Usually the price includes: yacht rental, crew (captain and sailor), ice, water and a couple of liters of cola, as well as masks and snorkels for snorkeling. Some operators offer all inclusive: with drinks and food, such as ceviche, guacamole and quesadillas.

What is NOT included. An important point: alcohol is often charged separately. Either you bring your own, or buy on board at the bar-price. Tips for the crew are also usually not included (it is customary to leave 15-20% of the cost if you liked everything) and sometimes a port fee (about $ 20 per person)

With or without the captain? Spoiler alert: only with the captain

If you are an experienced yachtsman with an international license (IYT, RYA, ISSA), you can get a bareboat charter in Mexico. But we don’t recommend it. The local waters are full of reefs, navigation is difficult, and the rules for entering marinas are specific. One wrong maneuver and a vacation will turn into a problem solver.

The Mexico itinerary that won’t disappoint: Cancun — Isla Mujeres

A classic, proven over the years. You exit the marina in the Cancun hotel area (for example, Sunset Marina or Marina La Amada) and head northeast.

First stop: the reefs of Isla Mujeres. The water here is clear, and there are thousands of fish. Even if you’ve never been snorkeling, this is the place where you fall in love with snorkeling. The captain drops anchor, and you swim among the corals and colorful fish.

Second stop: Playa Norte (North Beach). This is the same postcard with white sand and turquoise water. The yacht anchors two steps from the shore. You can swim, sunbathe on the deck, or ask the captain to come closer to the restaurants on the island if you want fresh lobster.

Important: If you take a 4-hour rental, this is enough time to do everything safely. If it’s 6 o’clock, you can still walk around the island itself, go shopping or drink margaritas at the beach bar.

Practical tips for those who book for the first time

Book in advance. There may not be enough places for good yachts in the high season (December–April) for a month. The best time to book for 2026 is right now.

Check the condition of the vessel. Look for recent photos in the reviews. If they complain about the technical condition, pass by.

Check the details in advance. Ask if there is air conditioning on board (relevant for July-August), how much water is on, and whether you can bring your own alcohol.

Read the fine print. Where is the collection point? Is the transfer from the hotel included? Who pays the port fee? .
